Beaches and Watersports
The La Manga Club resort has its own secluded Mediterranean cove, La Cala, located approximately ten minutes by car or shuttle bus from the hotel. There are numerous other beaches on the Mediterranean and Mar Menor coasts. The Mar Menor beaches are particularly popular with families due to the warm, shallow waters. The area is ideal for watersports such as sailing, snorkelling and scuba diving.

There is a fabulous choice of restaurants and bars within La Manga Club, at the hotel, in Las Lomas and in the central shopping area of Las Sabinas. Cuisine ranges from typical Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Indian. During peak seasons it is recommended to book tables in advance. The Piano Bar at the Hyatt also serves food and provides a relaxing ambiance for a drink with live piano music in the evenings.

La Manga Club has always been synonymous with golf. With its three championship 18-hole courses and outstanding practise facilities, it is perhaps hardly surprising that it has been voted Europe's top golf resort three times in the past five years.

The Murcia region is best explored by hire car, and this can be arranged for you. Close to La Manga Club there is the charming fishing village of Cabo de Palos with excellent restaurants and well worth a visit. The 'La Manga Strip' is a thirteen mile long strip of land that surrounds the Mar Menor. This is lively in the summer with busy restaurants, bars and markets, also the Thomas Maestre harbour offering boating trips etc.

Cartagena, 20 minutes from La Manga, the first settlement founded in the natural harbour of Cartagena was constructed in 223 BC by the Carthaginians, who called it Quart Hadas (New City). After conquering the city in 209 BC the Romans called it Carthago Nova (New Carthage) Although the city declined in importance in the middle ages, its prestige increased in the 18th century when it became a major naval base. Now a busy city with a wealth of museums, restaurants and of course great shops.Lorca sits in the south-west of the region of Murcia and is a town of a variety of contrasts. The town blends it's historical heritage with modern life. Lorca is also an important commercial centre and is probably the most important tourist centre in the region. It has mountains to a height of 1.500m in the north-west and an 8km coastline. The surrounding area is covered with vineyards.

Mar Menor, (Little Sea) is a unique area located on the east coast of Spain, within the region of Murcia just above the city of Cartegena. Few regions have the good fortune to have both a saltwater lake and a Mediterranean shore. The region of Murcia has both and the salt water lake with an area of 170sq.km is known as Mar Menor, the largest salt water lake in Europe. The water here is both warm and very safe for swimming.

Murcia, just 40 minutes from La Manga Club, is described as one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the country. The city is some 1200 years old and has many features and museums and excellent shopping. It has the highest temperatures in the region. There is a great deal of Moorish influence in the city, not least of all the impressive city walls. After the reconquest, the 20 mosques in the city were turned into churches. The Cathedral is the most highly prized building in the city. The first foundation stone was laid in 1388 by Bishop Pedrosa. It took four centuries to complete. There are so many different styles and cultures within, including 23 different chapels.
