Vilamoura is located in the central area of the Algarve approximately 30km west of Faro and only 30 minutes from the airport. Faro is easily accessible with daily flights from most UK airports. The Vilamoura area has enjoyed tremendous growth in recent years and now has one of the best infrastructure in the region with wide roads and many facilities which include the marina, a casino and several golf courses.
The Vilamoura Marina is the largest in the Algarve for leisure boasts and can accommodate the largest yachts. There is a good variety of shops and restaurants around the marina and many elegant hotels near the long sandy beach.
To the west a number of golf courses have recently been built, here smart new developments can be found along the golf fairways. There are nature trails and cycle paths leading to the beaches.
To the east is Quarteira, a charming fishing village where you can still buy fresh fish off the boats returning from the Atlantic. Not far inland you can find charming whitewashed villages little affected by tourism for a view of the Algarve of days gone by.
